I am a registered Professional Engineer (PE) and a Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) with more than 32 years’ experience working as an Environmental, Health & Safety Professional in consulting, business and manufacturing. I earned a B.S. degree in Environmental Engineering from Wilkes College, and a Masters of Engineering in Environmental Pollution Control from Penn State University. I am an authorized OSHA outreach instructor for the 10- and 30-hour courses for General Industry and Construction. I have completed several trainings including HAZMAT incident response operations, EMS Lead Auditor for ISO 14001, Campbell Chain Sling and Lifting Seminar Certification, Miller Fall Protection Competent Person, Post-Disaster Safety Evaluations, and Train-the-Trainer Flagger instruction.
I grew up in Hazleton, PA, going to Catholic school for 13 years (the priests and nuns couldn’t get rid of me but my parents were on speed-dial). I started working in a local hospital at age 14 delivering food trays to patients (and wearing my Simmons School of Embalming t-shirt). In less than four years I reluctantly went off to college at age 17 to study something in the sciences (math or engineering was my skill set). I enjoyed playing all types of sports then including basketball, baseball, wrestling, tennis, volleyball, and racquetball. I also enjoyed fresh-water fishing with my father, brother, relatives and friends (Canada trips were amazing as I spent lots of time in the water instead of the boat). Several moves later and having lived in southern Georgia for a short time, I am now back in PA. My objective in life: never do anything to land me on the Jerry Springer or Maury Povich shows.
It’s not who you are underneath, but what you do that defines you.
