Earlier this month, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issued a revised Form I-9 for Employment Eligibility Verification. The newly updated form is available and ready for immediate use; however, the older form will be accepted until May 7, 2013.

The new form is available at the USCIS page titled I-9 Central.

The revised form has expanded from one page to two. The most significant change is in employee-completed Section 1. New data fields have been added to gather the following information:

  1. Foreign passport information (if applicable)
  2. Optional fields for telephone number and email addresses (so that the Department of Homeland Security can contact the employee directly should they find a discrepancy between the information provided on the I-9 and other government records).

You will also notice more detailed instructions included.
